Abdominal Bloating and Excess Mucus 

Abdominal bloating can be awful causing, in some cases,

  • stomach pain, 
  • tenderness 
  • and gas pains.  

If you always feel full or experience frequent bloating and not quite sure of the reasoning behind it, you could be suffering from mucus draining into your stomach due to an allergy which is what I suffer from.  

Food allergies are most prevalent when it comes to experiencing bloating after eating as well as stomach pain after eating as I've experienced. 

Feeling Full When You Wake Up?

The way I remedy this,  which aides in mucus relief, is that I clear my sinuses with a neti pot in order to expel the mucus.  

Often times I can avoid allergy medications such as Claritin, Benadryl, etc.

If you are experiencing abdominal bloating in the mornings as soon as you wake up, it could be from the mucus that has slowly drained into your stomach over the course of the night. 

Oops..I Forgot to Use My Neti Pot

If I don’t use my neti pot, what will most likely happen is that I will continue to

  • to have abdominal bloating
  •  and have horrible stomach pain throughout the day.  


Whatever I eat will just continue to build on top of the mucus, making my stomach pain even worse. 

Any light touch to my belly will cause me to be in excruciating pain.

And yes, all from the mucus. Ugh! Awful!!

As an allergy sufferer all year round, I find if I don’t clear my sinuses, my pain is unbearable. 

I would eat the smallest, lightest meal such as oatmeal and fruit and my stomach would hurt so badly.  I knew I wasn’t allergic to oatmeal but could not figure out why I had so much pain until a wonderful nurse told me it was the mucus.  Thank heavens for her!! 


Seasonal Abdominal Bloating

Well we all love when spring arrives, well at least I do, because everything starts to bloom and everything just becomes so gorgeous! but with blooming also comes the awful pollen. 


 If you find that your distension occurs only during certain times of the year especially spring, your body may be producing a copious amount of mucus due to an allergy towards pollen.  Think about it- If you are having symptoms of

  • nasal congestion, 
  • stuffy nose, 
  • blocked ears, etc. 
  • along with gas pains

its most likely the mucus that is just sitting stagnant in your stomach.

Use a neti to rid yourself of the excess phelgm and find mucus relief.
